| John Fitzhugh John "Fitz" is one of the drummers/percussionist for the band. He is a self-taught musician who grew up in Charlottesville, Va. Music is all about feeling for this guy, who's greatest characteristic is his ear and intrinsic sense of time. He's known the band since their origin, sitting in with them from time to time, and eventually becoming a permanent member. He credits his father for introducing him to the beauty of music and believe music is broken down into two categories. it either has soul or it doesn't. Ed Freeman Ed Freeman aka "Pops" is one of the founders of Blues Jam. He has played the keyboards since beginning at six years old, and mostly plays the organ in Blues Jam. Occasionally he plays piano, guitar, and vocals. He has recently taken up drums and the cello. Together with other band members, and Ben Freeman he writes a good deal of Blues Jam's original material. ben and ed are producing Blues Jam's first record, tentatively titled "The Blues Jam Project". When he is not playing with Blues Jam, Ed is a Professor at the Darden School, University of Virginia, where he uses the creative arts to teach ethics and leadership. |
Jim Keathley A founding member of Blues Jam, Jim Keathley grew up in Detroit, where he was exposed to many different musical styles, all of which influence his music. A multi-instrumentalist, Jim is also a member of Second Draw (progressive bluegrass) and has played with both bands throughout Charlottesville and Central Virginia. Adrian Keevil Adrian started playing guitar in the fifth grade. His influences represent the panoply of things he was exposed to as a kid growing up in New York. When he was thirteen he saw The Jesus Lizard and Jon Spencer Blues explosion while protecting Joan jett from a mosh pit. At that moment he wanted to play indie rock. In high school he played in an experimental band that pushed the boundaries of what could be considered music. In College he joined an A cappella group, that opened for Aretha Franklin. After college Adrian spent five or six years in a jazz/rock band called dear Heavy. Then in 2003 he moved to Charlottesville and experienced playing in Blues Jam for the first time. There is nothing quite like playing in a band with horns, three guitars, two keys, two drummers, three singers and a lot of personality.
